Spear’s Review

Christus nobis factus sapientia is the motto of Geelong Grammar School. While the motto is deeply embedded in a former headmaster’s ‘regard for truth and reverence for the divine’, the school as it stands today interprets the phrase to mean ‘enabling wisdom’.

In this spirit, its students are encouraged to foster respect for education alongside the heritage and history of Australia. The school’s indigenous programme, which has been in place for 20 years, supports local communities through the Yalari Scholarship.

Known to some as Australia’s Eton, the school is strongly tied to British educational traditions but offers an international curriculum comprising the IB programme and Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Academics

In 2025:

  • The combined IB/VCE median Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR is a number between 0.00 and 99.95 that indicates a student’s position relative to all students in their age group) was 83.30
  • The median IB score was 37 points
