David de Ferrars is a market leader on various disputes surrounding the sale and purchase of classic cars: anything from a blip in a car’s provenance to someone selling one they don’t own – or forgeries, which are increasingly common. 

He has been with Taylor Wessing since qualifying over 25 years ago, but it was when colleague Ronald Graham brought his clients from RM Auctions (now RM Sotheby’s) to the firm that he was able to bring his lifelong interest in cars into the workplace. 

He also brings a solid grasp of the classic market. ‘I’ve always owned something that’s old that involved tinkering under the bonnet to the extent of my capabilities,’ he says.
