Christian Wicklein

Spear's Review

The private markets have changed, Christian Wicklein tells Spear's. 'It's not Barbarians at the Gate anymore,' he says, referring to the famously dramatic 1989 book that charted KKR's leveraged buyout of RJR Nabisco. 'In the meantime, it’s become all about value-creation.'

The public markets have changed too, for that matter, adds the managing director and co-head of the private wealth division at Swiss-based private markets firm, Partners Group, where he has been since 2007. ‘Public and private markets are swapping roles in financing the economy – and the investable universe of listed companies is shrinking’. Fewer companies float their shares on publicly traded stock markets, and that means more and better opportunities for private markets investors, which Partners Group serves through a broad range of solutions at its $40 billion private wealth division.
