Kingsley Napley’s Katie Newbury has ‘always focused on immigration’. Starting at the firm as a solicitor in 2012, she now leads its immigration team instructing on matters relating to family migration, international surrogacy and extradition.
With a client base that is predominantly from the United States, Hong Kong and the Middle East, she focuses on finding immigration solutions for her affluent network: investors, entrepreneurs and individuals who either have family members in the UK or who are looking to start a business in the UK.
Her biggest piece of advice to high-net-worth individuals? ‘Sort out all of your affairs in advance’. She points to tax as an example and urges people to ensure that they have sorted out their tax affairs prior to moving to the UK. This has become less of an issue over recent years, she notes. ‘Clients are more alive to tax than they used to be’.
