Company Profile

Quilter plc, a FTSE 250 wealth management business, describes itself as an ‘omni-channel, full-service wealth manager’. For HNW and UHNW private clients, charities and trustees, Quilter Cheviot serves as a discretionary fund manager, managing £28.1 billion in assets as of the end of March 2024, while Quilter Cheviot Financial Planning – previously Quilter Cheviot Private Client Advisers – offers comprehensive financial advice.

History

The earliest incarnation of Quilter Cheviot was formed in 1771 via a partnership of 150 stockbrokers in London. In 1869 Quilter Balfour & Co was created, and, after a period of expansion and a series of mergers, the company became Quilter Goodison & Co in 1981. Seven years later, Commercial Union acquired Quilter Goodison & Co.

Cheviot Asset Management entered the market in 2006, and merged with Quilter in 2013. Two years later, Old Mutual Wealth, a South African firm, acquired Quilter Cheviot Investment Management, and Old Mutual Wealth Private Clients was established.

Quilter Cheviot’s Dubai office opened in the Dubai International Financial Centre in 2016, with clients in the Middle East accessing discretionary management services via the Jersey office.

Old Mutual Wealth was demerged and rebranded to Quilter in 2018 and listed on the London and Johannesburg Stock Exchanges, while Old Mutual Wealth Private Clients was rebranded as Quilter Private Client Advisers.

In 2019, Quilter Cheviot Europe was established and authorised, and in 2020 Quilter Private Client Advisers and Quilter Cheviot merged.

In 2023, Quilter Cheviot marked its 50th anniversary in Jersey; the Jersey office can trace its history back to a stockbroking company called Roger Mortimer & Co. in 1973.
