Rob Lachenauer worked at Boston Consulting Group for 17 years, until his third daughter arrived and he realised that he ‘wasn’t going to be able to be a great dad and a great BCG partner’.

Lachenauer joined a consultancy company doing family business work, where he met Josh Baron. After a few years, the pair struck out alone to found Banyan Family Business Advisers, a boutique service headquartered in Boston with a second office in Sao Paulo, and further expansion planned. Its clients are owners of large family businesses or family offices. ‘Being a family owner is super complex,’ says Lachenauer. ‘Helping them make great decisions together is at the core of what we do.’

Lachenauer and Baron have also written a book, The Harvard Business Review Family Business Handbook.
