Previously a senior inspector within HSBC, Gary Ashford – a Chartered Tax Adviser (and non-lawyer) partner within Harbottle & Lewis – has particular expertise of contentious tax matters, including complex structures. In his current role, he regularly supports non-domiciled and international clients in identifying areas of risk in their tax affairs, including tax avoidance dispute issues and risks relating to overseas structures.

He has significant experience in assisting clients who need to make disclosures to HMRC or who are being investigated under Code of Practice 8 & 9 (COP8 and COP9) or criminal tax investigation. He also regularly advises on international tax issues, including the OECD BEPS programme (UK implementation) and the EU Anti-Avoidance Tax Directive.
