As UK market head within Standard Chartered’s private banking business, Demir Avigdor looks to provide ‘first-class’ wealth management services to UHNWs and business leaders.

‘It’s critical our bankers adapt and upskill themselves so we can compete in today’s rapidly changing world, but we also know that the priorities and expectations of our clients are changing – and we need to evolve alongside them,’ he says. 

He’s proud of the bank’s approach to socially responsible investing. ‘Many of our HNW clients are keen to make a positive difference to the world,’ he adds.

He tells Spear’s that Standard Chartered is one of the few global banks with ‘on-the-ground experts armed with local knowledge.’ 

‘We knew that one of our UHNW clients in the Middle East, whose wealth was generated from the region’s booming construction industry, was looking to expand his horizons into Asia,’ he says. ‘With the help of our teams in Singapore and Hong Kong we were able to table several co-investment opportunities which resulted in introductions to the respective family offices.’

Demir Avigdor is market head for the UK for Standard Chartered Private Bank. Prior to joining the Bank, Demir worked at UBS Wealth Management, where he had spent more than 16 years in Private Banking, most recently as managing director and head of HNW Clients in London. 

He had led teams with 50 client advisors and 40 assistants managing assets worth over $10 billion. He was also instrumental in setting up a robust platform for resident non-domiciled clients of UBS in London. Demir holds a master’s degree in finance from London Business School and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (FCSI).
