When Rathbones confirmed, in early 2023, that it would be purchasing its long-time rival Investec, the reaction was a 5 per cent jump in its share price.

Bringing together two of the largest and best known names in the UK’s wealth management industry, the deal will create a group in charge of some £100 billion of assets – placing it among the City’s largest.

Having led Rathbones since 2019, Paul Stockton continues to serve as chief executive of the bolstered firm, overseeing the integration and combination of the firm’s offices around the UK. 

The former chartered accountant has been pivotal in driving the firm’s expansion and refining its offer to value-conscious clients. Early in his career, he qualified at PwC before working in New York for the firm. He later held the position of financial director at several companies before joining Rathbones in 2008.
