Spear’s Review

The Cowdray Estate, owned by Michael Pearson, the fourth Viscount Cowdray, is one of the country’s most famous locations for activities such as polo, golf and pheasant shooting.

In the Pearson/Cowdray family for generations, the estate claims to possess ‘three times the national average of woodland, with over 36 per cent of the 16,500-acre estate dedicated to growing mainly conifers, broadleaf high forest and chestnut coppice’, making for a picturesque backdrop to the sporting facilities it offers.

The estate is largely known for hosting the Gold Cup for the British Open Polo Championship. For those who find themselves inspired by the professionals on the field, the estate is home to the Cowdray Park Polo Academy; there’s a separate academy for those hoping to improve their golf on the estate’s 6,331-yard, 18-hole course.
