As a result, the firm looked into building a business based on a partnership model which returns clients to having a trusted adviser with skin in the game. ‘It’s the best way to foster a long-term partnership in these times,’ he says. 

As CEO of Vermeer Partners, Melling oversees the day-to-day running of the business, and prides himself on being ‘incredibly hands on,' which involves taking part in the weekly partners meeting where investment ideas are debated. ‘One of our greatest assets is the mix of ages we have in the partnership, which means we can not only ensure continuity of service, but also a wealth of different perspectives, which inspires creativity and drives innovation,’ he explains.
