Spear’s Review
‘Most modern philanthropists want to see the funds they are investing [in] be transformational in some way,’ says David Carrington, who set up his independent philanthropic consultancy in 2001. ‘When it works, a philanthropist or social investor has helped someone do something very special.’
Carrington held senior positions in the charity sector for over 25 years before establishing his consultancy. He advises a range of charities and non-charitable organisations, including private banks. He notes that while ‘grants remain the core of philanthropy, there are more opportunities for people to use funds for social benefit from which they can attract financial return’.
