Joanna Farrands is a family law partner at Moore Barlow’s office in Surrey.

She told Spear’s: ‘The sort of people we are representing tend to be lots of people who work in the City but are living out here. They’d rather instruct somebody out here and not where they work; we like to say we have the expertise of the City lawyers without the price tag.’

Farrands particularly favours the conciliatory approach to family dispute resolution, and has represented both parties in a number of divorces. ‘I feel it makes such a difference to the family long term, and should preserve their relationship,’ she said. ‘Of course, not all cases will work under that model, but under that umbrella, finances – particularly international finances and complex businesses – are things I deal a lot with.’
