Spear’s Review

This intimate school – there are just 700 pupils ranging in age from 2 to 19 – provides truly international education on the island of Malta for the local population and visitors finding a foothold in the European Union.

St Edward’s has steadily grown from its origins in an old hospital in 1929 to take over further buildings and land until it had formed the handsome campus it now occupies, complete with extensive sport facilities, science labs, boarding houses and a chapel. Pupils go on to take up places at universities around the world, especially in the US, the UK and other European countries after taking their IB diploma programme qualifications.

Head teacher

Nollaig Mac an Bhaird has been headmaster at St Edward’s since 2015. He previously held roles at schools in the Netherlands.
