Dr Vikas Mehta is an executive health physician and private GP with Mayo Clinic Healthcare on Portland Place in London.

Starting his career as a plastic surgeon, a nerve issue of his own led Mehta away from surgery into general practice. ‘I like to know everything about everything,’ he says. ‘It’s very important to have that relationship with the patient so that they’re confident in the person who is taking care of them.’

He works within the ‘virtual campus’ of the Mayo Clinic’s specialists in the UK and the US, as well as with specialists in nearby Harley St and beyond.

He mixes seeing patients with teaching. ‘It definitely helps my patients,’ he says. ‘In order to teach, to encourage people to find the answers themselves, you also have to know the answers.’
