Spear’s Review

Founded in 1920 by educationalist Kurt Hahn, Schule Schloss Salem is a leading international boarding school in Germany. As part of an education that engages ‘head, heart and hand’, pupils are obliged to offer their services to the local community, working with emergency services, for example, or caring for the elderly.

Students work towards the German Abitur qualification or the IB diploma; they are taught in English and German, and academic results are strong.

Head teacher

Henrik Fass, headmaster of Schule Schloss Salem, took on his current role in early 2023. He studied history and religious education in Cologne and Bonn, and in 2011 completed a master’s degree in religious education and youth work. His experience includes time at German and international boarding schools, and he was head at Salem’s sister school, Birklehof, for a decade.
