Rachel Atkins entered into privacy law during the libel litigation shootouts of the 1990s. ‘It was an exciting opportunity to broaden my horizons,’ she says. ‘I see myself as much as a problem solver as a lawyer.’ The picture she paints certainly requires that. ‘In today’s current climate, wealth and success are seen as crimes. Reputation and privacy are vital to any conversation about what it means to live in a connected, digital world and the codes and rules that govern reputation and privacy are now being debated the world over,’ she says. One of her favourite briefs saw Atkins tasked with ensuring press and paparazzi didn’t catch wind of an ‘extravagant party’ thrown by an entrepreneur.
