In 2018 JAG Shaw Baker, a boutique tech law firm co-founded by James Shaw, merged with Withers in order to create a global venture capital and technology legal practice which aims to serve 'disruptors and innovators' in the technology and life sciences sectors.
The transition was highly successful and led by Shaw, who is now the global head of Withers Tech and a partner in the firm's corporate team.
The Scottish-qualified lawyer mainly advises entrepreneurs, high-growth technology-based companies and investors in matters relating to financing, growth, scale-up and liquidity. Shaw believes that Withers Tech is well-positioned to profit from the increasingly important role of private capital in the venture capital and technology sectors, because of its 'combination of private client, tax, investment funds, technology and venture capital investment capabilities’.
