Clement Hutton-Mills

Spear’s Review

Clement Hutton-Mills joined Goldman Sachs in 2021 as part of a large expansion of the bank’s private wealth team within its London base. The former Rothschild & Co managing director, who spent over a decade with the firm, prides himself on what he describes as a ‘proactive’ approach, paired with an ability to explain complex investment concepts in ‘straightforward’ language.

‘I aim to be reassuring – and to be the person clients turn to first when considering their overall portfolio, as well as for broader advice including any financing requirements,’ says the Oxford graduate.

He spends a considerable amount of time with each of his clients to ensure they are ‘comfortable with the approach being adopted at all times’.

Hutton-Mills, who began his career as an analyst at JP Morgan after studying modern languages, has told Spear’s about the importance of fostering an inclusive working environment in the private wealth industry.

‘No two clients are the same, and you don’t necessarily have to put someone in front of the client who looks like them. It’s important to have a pool of people to draw from that can relate to clients on various levels – be that ethnic background, age or languages spoken,’ he says.

The Spear’s Award-nominated wealth manager says that the earlier years of his career, which he spent supporting clients amid the fallout from the 2008 financial crisis, were highly formative.
