Simon Fitzpatrick

Spear's Review

Simon Fitzpatrick, Boodle Hatfield’s art and litigation head, is celebrated in the legal world for his knowledge of a wide range of art disputes, from provenance claims to negligence, and is on speed dial for premier collectors, galleries and auction houses who require specialist advice. One of Fitzpatrick's most high profile cases is advising Lancelot Thwaytes in 2014, a former owner of a Caravaggio called ‘Cardsharps’, who launched a negligence claim against Sotheby’s. This was a landmark case in art law which brought forward salient points about the the duties owed by an auction house to its consigner.

The lawyer has been leading the firm’s well-respected art practice for close to two decades, and is also a founding board member of Mayfair Art Weekend.
