Company profile

Leading lights and senior partners Richard Egan and Jim Meyer have carved out a market-leading reputation for their high end work having developed a co-ordinated and strategic approach to casework using state-of-the-art IT management tools and highly trained and motivated personnel.

In 1997 Egan and Meyer set up the Special Casework unit, a firm within the firm structured to deal with the particular needs of HNWI's or high-profile clients facing the rigours of a criminal allegation. The bespoke nature of their team gives flexibility and precision whilst allowing them to tap into the specific expertise or experience of the personnel in a much larger firm. Consequently every client is provided with their own pre designed team set up to deal with their particular case needs. When appropriate they also work closely with crisis management lawyers to limit reputational damage.

The department handles a diverse mix of clients. Egan is representing a banker with US political exposure being investigated for fraud, two separate UK clients being investigated by the SFO for corruption in the DRC and Sierra Leone, while at the other end of the spectrum he is currently defending in high profile cases such as the Sarah Everard murder and acted in the acquittal of a former premiership footballer accused of rape.

Meyer is represented a film producer in what has been described by the CPS as the most complex tax avoidance scheme ever prosecuted, successfully defended an HNWI charged with the murder of his partner and currently acts in a number of cases involving historic allegations of sexual misconduct.

The success of their department has recently led to them being selected by a leading Premier League football club to be held on an annual retainer to provide all their staff with advice and representation in connection with any potential criminal enquiries.

The firm's partners have developed great experience dealing with high-profile prosecutions in the UK and have also developed support regimes in the US, Europe, Dubai and the Turks and Caicos Islands. The quality and experience of the staff is second to none, counting among its leading lawyers past presidents of law societies, winners of legal awards and high praise in the professional guides such as the Legal 500 and Chambers Legal Directory where Egan and Meyer are both ranked number one in their field.
