Hugo Burnand is the ‘reassuringly expensive’ society portrait photographer de nos jours — capturing princes, pop-stars, porn-stars and presidents. Everyone knows that he did the gig of the century, the formal wedding portraits of Wills and Kate (with Hugo’s then-septuagenarian mum as a photographer’s assistant). And that he snapped the nuptials of Charles and Camilla too. But he’s also shot everyone from Elle Macpherson to a partying Boy George.

Oozing charm and wielding his camera and the best contacts book in town, Old Harrovian Hugo swishes into sessions with a Cheshire-cat smile and an ability to relax even the shyest baby. Little wonder he was chosen to take The Prince of Wales’s official 60th birthday image.

Born in Cannes, Hugo says that he’s been staring at stars ever since.
