A former Magic Circle litigator who spent five years defending Rupert Murdoch’s News Group Newspapers in court and arbitration, newcomer Emily Cox makes a powerful addition to Pinsent Masons’ media disputes team.

How does Cox – who practised at Linklaters for 11 years before heading up media litigation for the consumer affairs champion Which? – define her approach? ‘I believe in clear and commercial advice, delivering difficult messages when necessary,’ she says.

That means providing would-be litigants with a realistic assessment of their case right off the bat. ‘Clients need confidence that you will tell them when a case is or is not worth pursuing for legal, financial or tactical reasons, rather than simply what you think they want to hear,’ she adds.
