Spear’s Review

The stunningly beautiful Zuoz lures new pupils in with a giddying online fly-through tour of its buildings and mountainous, snowy grounds. It works well, and students of 45 different nationalities now call it their term-time home. Located near St Moritz, it was founded in 1904 and is one of the oldest boarding schools in Switzerland.

Motivation, critical thinking and creativity are key values, and the school encourages individual development and open-mindedness. There is a wide range of extracurricular activities on offer, too. There is skiing, of course, but also indoor pursuits such as team sports and theatre.

Head teacher

Oliver Hartwright, head of school, is a graduate of the universities of Exeter (BA) and East Anglia (PGCE) and holds a master’s in education from the University of Bath. Following teaching positions in the UK and Portugal, he led schools in Germany, most recently holding the role of deputy head at Munich International School.
