Spear’s Review

Co-head of Goldman Sachs’ Private Wealth Management for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Stefan Bollinger has led the banking giant for over four years.

Serving alongside Christopher French — who has been with the bank for over three decades — the pair have sought to work together in order to further cement Goldman’s position in the industry. ‘The opportunity was so big that we wanted to double-down,’ Bollinger tells Spear’s. ‘It felt like we should have double the leadership with a view to doubling the business’.

The strategy seems to have proven successful. ‘We have doubled the business — from the number of people we have, the number of offices we have and the number of assets we manage,’ Bollinger proudly remarks.

The Swiss banker shows no signs of stopping and notes that Goldman Sachs is in a privileged position where it can evolve and adapt to meet the needs of their clients. ‘When we do something, there’s a lot more scrutiny on us than [other banks],’ he says. ‘But in a positive way, it means we can influence the industry really meaningfully. We can perform a very important function in terms of making sure that clients get value for money and are getting what they deserve’.
